What does Pounce Search?

Pounce searches for books, e-books, e-journals, maps, music scores, films, sound recordings, government publications, archival materials etc, owned by or accessible via the University of Minnesota, Morris.


What does Pounce not search?

Pounce does not currently search for articles within journals. Use our databases instead. Also, Pounce does not accurately search for many print course materials. Please use our course reserves page instead.


Search Tips & Examples when using Pounce

Wildcard characters example:
?—single character anywhere [example: wom?n]
*—multiple characters anywhere [example: cultur* col*r]

Phrases—find exact phrase using quotation marks [example: "american south"] or select "with my exact phrase" from the center drop down list

AND, OR, NOT must be capitalized to function as connectors:
AND —results contain both words [example: bridges AND construction]
OR —results contain either word [example: tylenol OR acetaminophen]
NOT—results exclude word [example: pepsi NOT coke]

Do not use & —instead spell the word 'and' within a title
Example: search for "philosophy and ethics" instead of
    "philosophy & ethics"

Nested Searches / Grouping terms—combine two connectors separated by parentheses. Example: (pepsi OR coke) AND sales

Known title searches—select "starting with" and "in the title" from drop-down lists. Omit initial articles such as a, an, the, le.

ISBN searches—no spaces or hyphens [example: 9780810860087]

Call number searches—spaces and punctuation must be included; a space must occur between the subject and author representations and year of publication [example: GV1060.2.A1 S55 2009]
